Prof. Janneke van de Wijgert, MD PhD MPH, is a translational infectious disease researcher, educated in biomedical sciences and medicine (Utrecht University, Netherlands), and public health epidemiology (University of California at Berkeley, USA). Her main areas of research and teaching include the role of the cervicovaginal microbiome in reproductive and neonatal health and disease, and in prevention of HIV transmission; the role of the urinary tract microbiome in urinary tract infections; the human microbiome and general infectious and immune-mediated disease epidemiology more generally; and evaluation of diagnostics, treatments, and prevention interventions in these areas.
